Even with his team ahead by 23 points in a game last week at Lake Mary Prep, New Smyrna Beach point guard Frank Bellissimo crashed into the scorer's table chasing down a loose ball.
The ball eventually trickled to the opposite end of the compact gymnasium, prompting second-year Head Coach Ryan Dickey to retrieve it. The joints tightened up every so slightly during his leisurely trot.

For the second time in three years, New Smyrna Beach experienced five-set volleyball heartbreak on its home floor.
Led by the freshman duo of outside hitter Brooklyn Tealer and setter Meme Davis, Gainesville rallied from an early deficit in the decisive set to eliminate the Barracudas in Wednesday's Region 1-6A quarterfinal (17-25, 25-22, 25-15, 10-25, 15-12).
Tealer produced a match-high 27 kills, and Davis added 24 assists with 13 digs.

More than half of the Volusia-Flagler area's football teams will spend this Friday night away from the football field, most as a direct or indirect result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Nancy Wait, a spokeswoman for the Volusia County school district, said Monday that COVID-19 related incidents would force Atlantic, Deltona and Pine Ridge to enter 14-day quarantine periods. Father Lopez, which hosted Atlantic last week, is also in quarantine though it reported no positive cases, according to assistant principal Scott Drabczyk.

New Smyrna Beach cruised to a straight-set win over Groveland South Lake (25-12, 25-15, 25-10) in the District 6-6A volleyball championship match Thursday night.
Eden Anderson led the Barracudas (17-7) with 11 kills, Kate McLaughlin added seven kills with five aces and Brooke Kornegay chipped in 16 digs and two aces.
This the eighth straight season the Barracudas qualified for the state playoffs.
