Cleveland, 40, spent 17 years at the high school level before joining the Hurricanes, guiding three separate programs to district championships — Coral Springs Christian Academy, Oviedo Master’s Academy and, most recently, Oviedo Hagerty.

One of Florida’s most successful prep baseball coaches over the last two decades, Matt Cleveland will look to continue Spruce Creek’s winning tradition in 2021 and beyond.

Cleveland, who spent the 2020 season as an assistant at the University of Miami, was named the Hawks’ head coach on Wednesday, athletic director Mike Randow said. He will take over for Johnny Goodrich, the school’s all-time wins leader (347-154 in 20 seasons) who accepted the position of general manager for the Orlando Scorpions travel baseball club in April.
